Food hygiene resources for young people in Wales

We have a variety of resources on offer to schools, skills coaches, learning providers, colleges and universities to upskill young people on the importance of food hygiene and safety.

Food Safety and Hygiene e-learning course

We provide a free e-learning course to education establishments in Wales who wish to offer 'Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene (Catering)' training to anyone aged 14 and over.

The City and Guilds accredited qualification is intended to support your learners to develop important kitchen skills and be ready step into a career within the food and drink industry.

Learners are awarded a digital, fully downloadable certificate following successful completion of the online training. The course takes approximately three hours with flexibility to work through material when it suits the individual and focuses on food related topics, including:

  • the importance of food safety and hygiene
  • impact of foodborne illness
  • understanding food law
  • understanding allergens
  • food safety hazards and contamination
  • food preservation
  • storage and temperature control
  • personal hygiene
  • hygienic premises and equipment
