The Food Information (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2016
Draft Welsh Regulations are needed to enforce Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 828/2014, which sets out the requirements of information to be provided to consumers on the absence or reduced presence of gluten in food.
About this consultation
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 828/2014 sets out the requirements, based on internationally accepted safe levels, related to the claims ‘gluten-free’ and ‘very low gluten’ for foods, which have been specifically manufactured to satisfy the particular nutritional requirements of people who have an intolerance to gluten. The EU Regulation also allows normal foods that meet the compositional requirements of the Regulation to be labelled as ’gluten-free’. The proposed Welsh Regulations are intended to revoke The Foodstuffs Suitable for People Intolerant to Gluten (Wales) Regulations 2010.
