Dr Janice McConnell - Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee

Janice is an AfN Registered Nutritionist, Public Health (RNutr) by profession. Her education spans food, nutrition, and public health specialties and includes a first-class BSc (hons) degree from Ulster University, MSc degrees in Food Technology (Reading University) and Communication (QUB), and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Nutrition) from Ulster University. She is also a Chartered Scientist (CSci), and Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (FIFST), and Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH).

Career-wise Janice has worked across health, education, government, and academic sectors. This includes research roles in the food industry (nutrition), public health (NHSSB), and sensory science (QUB), food technology lecturer (CAFRE), PHN practitioner in local government, and QUB tutor in healthy eating and behaviour change.

Having worked in public health for many years within the domains of health intelligence, health improvement (nutrition), and research, Janice has gained substantial knowledge and experience in complex intervention management, practicing under a root-cause paradigm for sustainable behaviour change in populations. She has a particular interest in nutrition in the early years, and systems thinking approaches to tackling population dietary habits.
