FSA announces £1.4 million funding for launch of new innovation hub

As part of the Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO)’s mission to promote a pro-innovation regulatory system, the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has awarded the Food Standards Agency (FSA) £1.4 million to support a new innovation hub. This hub will develop and expand specialist expertise in regulating innovative technologies such as precision fermented foods, making sure these products are safe to eat before they are sold.

FSA operation on suspected food fraud results in one arrest

The FSA’s National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) has carried out a joint operation with West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire police forces in relation to suspected food fraud, involving the creation of potentially fraudulent documents that enable movement of cattle, and the likely adverse impact on the food chain.

FSA and FSS call for immediate action to address vet workforce challenges

FSA Chief Executive Emily Miles gave evidence to the Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee (EFRA) yesterday (12 March 2024) setting out the urgent need to address the shortage of vets and, together with FSS, highlighting the need for action to significantly improve recruitment and retention of Official Veterinarians across the UK.

FSA Scientific Advisory Committees welcome 20 new members

The Chair of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Professor Susan Jebb has announced the appointment of 20 new independent experts as members of the FSA’s Scientific Advisory Committees (SACs). This is made up of 19 full members, and 1 Chairperson.
