Monitoring Scottish dietary targets
The Scottish dietary targets formed the basis of the 1996 Scottish Office report 'Scottish Diet Action Plan.' The 2003 document 'Improving Health in Scotland: the Challenge' committed the Scottish Executive to continue the further implementation of the Scottish Diet Action Plan well beyond 2005.
The FSA Strategic Plan 2005 also commits to achieving a target of 11% from saturated fat and a maximum daily intake of salt of 6g per day.
Following the publication of the Report of the Working Group on Monitoring Scottish Dietary Targets in December 2004, the Food Standards Agency Scotland commissioned a review with the purpose of assessing progress towards the Scottish Dietary Targets. Entitled A Review of Food Consumption and Nutrient Intakes from National Surveys in Scotland: Comparison to the Scottish Dietary Targets it was published on 11 September 2006.
Working Group on monitoring Scottish dietary targets
As part of a renewed impetus on diet and health in Scotland in 2003, progress towards the Scottish dietary targets must be measured.
A working group on monitoring Scottish dietary targets was set up to:
- investigate and report on the ways of assessing progress made towards the Scottish dietary targets to date
- advise on surveillance requirements beyond 2005
Recommendations for monitoring progress towards the Scottish dietary targets are included in the report.
