Food experts come to Aberdeen

Members of the public will be able to raise any food-related issues that affect them at the Scottish Food Advisory Committee (SFAC) meeting on Tuesday 8 November.
Anyone with an interest in food is invited to come along and air their views on the issues that are important to them.
Topics on the agenda include:
- Nutrition: Current and Future Role and Priorities of the FSA in Scotland in Reformulation of Food Products
- Report from Director of Food Safety
- Annual Report FSA Operations Group
- Information for Consumers on Compliance and Food Hygiene in Food Establishments
- Food Standards Agency Response to UK Government’s Red Tape Challenge
- Emerging Food Technologies: Novel Protein Sources
- CCTV for Monitoring Animal Welfare at the Time of Slaughter
Dr Jim Wildgoose, SFAC Interim Chair, said: 'We want people to come along, listen to the discussion and share their views on the food-related issues that matter to them'.
'The meeting is open to members of the public, food producers, retailers, local authority representatives and anyone else with an interest in food. We are committed to listening to the views of Scottish stakeholders and putting consumers first'.
The meeting will be held at the Food Standards Agency in Scotland, St Magnus House, 25 Guild Street, Aberdeen, AB11 6NJ. Registration starts at 09:15 with the meeting scheduled to run from 09:30 – 12:30.

Notes for Editors
1. SFAC was established in 2000 to provide independent advice and information on a variety of topics such as food safety and standards to the FSA in Scotland. The Committee currently consists of 6 members who provide a wide base of knowledge on food-related issues. Its Interim Chair, Dr Jim Wildgoose, is also a member of the FSA Board.
2. The FSA is an independent UK wide government department set up as a food safety watchdog to protect the public’s health and consumer interests in relation to food.
