Asda withdraws some Fresh Tastes Gammon Steaks with Pineapple
Friday 26 February 2010
Asda has withdrawn some packs of its Fresh Tastes Gammon Steaks with Pineapple because of a packaging error. Packs with a 'best before' date of 1 March 2010 actually contain Fresh Tastes Gammon Steaks with Cheese, which contains wheat gluten and milk. This makes the mislabelled packs a possible health risk for anyone who is allergic or sensitive to wheat or gluten or milk.
The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert advising anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to wheat or gluten or milk not to eat this product.
Product details
The product being withdrawn is:
- Asda Fresh Tastes 2 Gammon Steaks with Pineapple, 390g
- Best before: 1 March 2010
The company has withdrawn the affected packs and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members why the product has been withdrawn. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores, explaining to customers why the packs have been withdrawn.
If you have bought an affected product, you can return it for a full refund. You do not need your receipt. If you would like any further information, you can call Asda Customer Relations on 0500 100 055.
No other Asda products are known to be affected.
Allergy Alert
Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
In such situations the Agency will issue an Allergy Alert. It is also possible to subscribe to an email alert system to receive automatic messages whenever Allergy Alerts are issued. Click on 'Get alerts' in the box at the bottom of this page to find more details.
You can get details of all the latest allergy alerts as soon as they're issued by getting the details sent as a SMS text message direct to your mobile phone.
To sign up to this free service, simply send the text message ‘START ALLERGY’ to the number 62372. To unsubscribe, just text 'STOP ALLERGY' to the same number.
