Scientific consultation on iron and health launched
Wednesday 17 June 2009
The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) has today issued a scientific consultation on their draft report that reviews the evidence on iron and health.
SACN, an independent expert committee that advises the Agency and other Government departments, is inviting comments on the scientific content of the report during the 14-week consultation.
SACN was asked to review the dietary evidence on iron, considering the health effects of both iron deficiency and iron excess.
Responses to the scientific consultation will be considered in full by SACN before the Committee agrees its final report. The FSA Board is expected to discuss the recommendations in spring 2010 and then advise UK health ministers.
During the scientific consultation on the report, the FSA will hold discussions with interested stakeholders.
A full copy of the SACN draft report on iron and health, as well as details on how to respond to the consultation, can be found on the SACN website at the link below.
