Harmonisation of specified risk material (SRM) controls
Monday 13 March 2006
The Agency has published responses received to a consultation, launched by the UK's four rural affairs departments, on the harmonisation of specified risk material (SRM) controls applicable in the UK, with those in other EU Member States.
For England, the consultation was issued by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). In Scotland it was issued by the Scottish Executive, in Wales by the Welsh Assembly Government, and in Northern Ireland by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).
The Agency is publishing the responses relating to policy areas in which the FSA leads (SRM controls).
At its March 9 Open Meeting, the Agency's Board considered harmonisation of SRM controls, following the agreement a day earlier by European Union veterinary experts, to end the ten year ban on beef and cattle exports from the UK.
