Update on malicious tampering with Kingsmill Bread
Thursday 21 December 2006
The Food Standards Agency is urging consumers to be vigilant after further suspected cases of malicious tampering at Allied Bakeries Orpington plant in Kent. The incidents emerged after customers discovered foreign objects in loaves of Kingsmill sliced bread.
In one incident, pieces of glass were reported to be found inside the packaging and not embedded in the bread. Three further incidents are currently being investigated by the police to see if they are linked to an ongoing investigation.
The Orpington bakery distributes to retailers, including supermarkets and smaller outlets, across the south east of England.
Over the last 18 months, the Agency has been working closely with the police, who are leading the investigation, the London Borough of Bromley and Allied Bakeries, to resolve this issue.
If customers find a foreign object in any Allied Bakeries bread, they should immediately contact the Allied Bakeries Customer Careline on 0800 1970110.
