Scottish activity on GM food

Food Standards Agency Scotland has been running events in Scotland to discuss issues of consumer choice and the acceptability of GM foods. They were designed in particular to seek the views of young people and people on low incomes.

The two main events, Anniesland College (25 HNC students of Social Care and Counselling) and Drumchapel (18 low income/disadvantaged people targeted by an external contractor), were supplemented by smaller events in Edinburgh and Galashiels (Borders) where participants were generated through contacts with local civic organisations. A report on these meetings has been drawn up by the Scottish Civic Forum and can be read below.

The Scottish Civic Forum is a membership organisation committed to building a culture of active citizenship, in which Scottish people have opportunities to be more involved in shaping policies that may affect them. The Forum exists to build links between Scottish people, their Parliament and between different parts of civic society, and its role is to support small and poorly resourced organisations in engaging with Government.
