Future food hygiene conference
The Future of food hygiene conference examined hygiene delivery across the full length of the food chain. It aimed to develop the actions needed for a transformation in food hygiene delivery that will better protect the public while reducing burdens on businesses and taxpayers.
A range of international speakers and national experts shared their experiences on how culture, behaviour and innovative practices influence standards of food hygiene.
The event began with a video message from Sharon Mills, the mother of Mason Jones, the five year old boy who died from E.coli poisoning during the outbreak in South Wales in 2005. Ms Mills described Mason’s last few days, and the dreadful effects that E.coli could have. The video can be viewed at the link below.

After hearing the presentations delegates were asked how systems for managing and enforcing food hygiene might be transformed to improve food safety and consumer protection.
Biographies of each of the speakers, along with copies of their presentations and the proceedings of the meeting can be found at the links below.
The conference was jointly hosted by the Food Standards Agency and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
