August 2009 update on Official Controls

This is an update on the European Commission's proposals for implementing rules under Regulation 882/2004 on official controls for import controls for 'high-risk' feed and food of non-animal origin (non-POAO).

It provides information on the publication of European Commission Regulation (EC) 669/2009, which establishes the legal basis for implementing the new rules that will apply from 25 January 2010. It also updates stakeholders on the development at EU level of guidelines on the principles and criteria for deciding which products should be subject to the provisions in the regulation and on the technical application of the regulation.

Comments are invited the issues arising from this as soon as possible and by 21 August 2009 at the latest.
