July 2007 update on natural mineral water
Wednesday 18 July 2007
The European Commission has proposed a draft regulation which would allow the treatment of mineral water to remove fluoride using an activated alumina treatment.
A letter to the main stakeholders and a copy of the draft text is provided at the links below.
No impact assessment has been produced at this stage as the information we have is that UK producers already meet the appropriate fluoride limit and would therefore not need to use this treatment.
If, however, you believe that this amendment will result in a significant impact, we would welcome your comments and evidence including evidence on costs.
Please send us any comments on the draft regulation or on any potential costs it may incur by 17 August 2007.
Update 30 July 2007
The FSA has received from the European Commission a revised version of the draft Regulation on the use of activated alumina to remove fluoride from natural mineral water. This is attached below with a letter which describes the main changes from the first version. We would welcome any comments on version 2 of this draft European Regulation or on any potential costs it may incur by 17 August 2007
