French presidency seminar on modernising inspections in slaughterhouses

This note provides a brief overview of the Lyon seminar and records the conclusions and recommendations of the Lyon seminar which are to be presented to Chief Veterinary Officers in October 2008.

The participants agreed that current official inspection tasks did not address current meat safety hazards, but also recognised that regulatory change would not be quick, as agreement had to be reached with 3rd country trading partners before EU legislation could be changed.
