Marine oil and chemical spills
Tuesday 6 April 2010
The Food Standards Agency is participating in a cross government initiative set up to provide a more integrated and robust approach to chemical and oil spills in the marine and coastal environment.
The Premiam project (also known as 'Pollution Response in Emergencies: Marine Impact Assessment and Monitoring') is led by Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) scientists and will provide a co-ordinated post incident monitoring and impact assessment service to a range of government and other stakeholders.
The Agency has a keen interest in this area of work, given the risks chemical and oil spills can have on fish and shellfish destined for the food chain.
