Events, projects and initiatives
The Agency carries out a wide range of activities aimed at preventing, identifying, managing and responding to incidents better. These activities include workshops targeted at industry, an international workshop focused on identifying emerging risks earlier, and an incident prevention strategy plan.
Regional pilot workshops for manufacturers
The first workshop, targeted at large food manufacturers, was held at the Government Office for East Midlands in Nottingham on 21 February 2008. This was intended as an introduction to the Agency’s Incident Prevention Programme and to explain how the Agency classifies and manages incidents. The workshop covered incident prevention, incident management and response. It also provided an explanation of the Agency’s risk assessment, classification and management processes.
The second workshop, targeted at small and medium food manufacturers, was held at the Food and Drink Forum premises in Nottingham on 28 February 2008. The workshop also covered incident prevention, incident management and response, as well as explaining what an incident is, how to report an incident and how the Agency manages an incident.
More information about the project can be found in the report at the link below.
International workshop
The Agency held an international workshop on food incident prevention and horizon scanning in March 2007. This was in cooperation with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The event aimed to identify emerging food safety risks. It looked at the underlying causes of food incidents from the manufacturing, catering retail and consumer perspectives, including the impact on brand reputation. The approaches of different countries were examined, including South Africa, Canada, Australia and the US. The workshop also considered the development of a European system for the identification of potential emerging food risks and horizon scanning mechanisms.
