National indicators
Tuesday 15 September 2009
Local authority regulatory services can have a crucial role in supporting the delivery of a wide range of national indicators as part of the Local Area Agreement (LAA) arrangements.
Factsheets have been produced by the FSA East Midlands team, at the request of the local authorities in the East Midlands, for each of the National Indicators where food related work could make a significant contribution.
These factsheets have been endorsed by LACORS and are now available for national use as a useful way to link food regulatory services to important public health and economic outcomes.
They can be used by local authority enforcement staff, senior officers, members and strategic policy officers to illustrate how an efficient and well resourced regulatory service can be built into community strategies and delivery plans to support the delivery of the local priorities and targets agreed in each LAA.
Each fact sheet provides:
- background to the indicator
- the definition of the indicator
- details how food related work relates to the indicator
- a link to a relevant case study
The factsheets are available at the links below.
National indicators
A single set of 198 national indicators was announced as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review 2007. The national indicators:
- are the only measures on which central Government will performance manage outcomes delivered by local government working alone or in partnership
- replaced all other existing sets of indicators including best value performance indicators and performance assessment framework indicators
- were reported by all areas from April 2008
