Executive Summary
The Authority was undertaking a wide range of enforcement activities when it identified breaches of legislation in its premises. However, there were a number of issues raised with the legal processes associated with these activities.
The Authority had a history of being unable to meet inspections targets. The Service Plan also indicated a substantial backlog of inspections. However, there was evidence that significant improvements had been achieved in the 18 months preceding the audit and members had committed further funding to the service. The recent introduction of an internal monitoring system and the reorganisation of the food enforcement service should further assist in these matters.
The innovative links with the business community particularly in terms of local purchasing policies demonstrated the Authoritys commitment to broaden their food business advice strategies.
