Executive Summary
The Authority had been involved in a number of investigations into illegal slaughter, which had national implications in terms of protecting public health. This demand on resources had a significant impact on the food premises inspection programme and was a contributory factor in the Authoritys inability to carry out inspections at the required frequency.
However the scope and complexity of the investigations have meant the development of new procedures and formulation of guidance that should assist other authorities to undertake similar investigations in the future.
