The East Renfrewshire Council is located to the south of the City of Glasgow and covers an area of 18,000 hectares, encompassing both agricultural and urban areas. Approximately 88,600 people live in East Renfrewshire.
The main centres of population being Barrhead in the west, and Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Clarkston, Thornliebank and Busby in the east. Although the East Renfrewshire population is not large, it has one of the most ethnically diverse populations in Scotland, with significant Muslim and Jewish communities.
The authority's strengths
Food & Food Premises Complaints– These have been followed up in accordance with the Authority's procedure.
Advice to Business– The Authority are providing advice to local businesses.
Food & Feedingstuffs Safety & Standards Promotion– The Authority are implementing food safety promotion.
Complaints Against the Service– A policy and procedure is in place.
Areas for Improvement
Service Plan– A Service Plan has been produced which generally meet the requirements of The Standard. However, the premises and risk rating profiles do not fully reflect the inspection programme.
Control and Investigation of Outbreaks and Food Related Infectious Disease– The Argyll & Clyde Health Board Community Outbreak Control Plan requires to be updated.
