Thursday 9 June 2005
This report provides a summary of the findings from the focused audit programme on internal monitoring and external review carried out by the Audit Branch of the Agency's Enforcement Division.
The programme of audits of 15 local authorities was carried out between February 2004 and January 2005. The Report also explores the conclusions from the audit findings and makes a number of recommendations for future action.
The Report has been developed in consultation with the Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS) and should be read in conjunction with the individual reports on the 15 local authorities audited as part of the programme.
Scope of the Report
The audit programme reviewed the internal monitoring arrangements the 15 local authorities had in place to verify their compliance with the Standard and the arrangements for external review of their food and feedingstuffs law enforcement Service. This included any 3rd party or peer review but had a particular focus on the local authorities participation in Inter Authority Audit (IAA) schemes.
The references to local authority food law enforcement within this Report include food hygiene, food standards and feedingstuffs.
