The Authority was providing a risk based imported food service proportionate to the low level of imported food activity at the port. There was an effective system for receiving details of declared consignments.

The Authority was developing a useful internet based document control and information system. As part of its implementation, policies and procedures were in the process of being reviewed and revised before being placed on the system.

The Authority acknowledged during the audit that the procedures in place for the authorisation of officers required review to ensure that officers were appropriately and explicitly authorised in accordance with their individual levels of qualifications and experience. Revised procedures had been drafted but these needed to be finalised and implemented.
