Plymouth City Council
Monday 19 September 2005
26-27 April 2005
Executive summary
The Authority were generally implementing an appropriate system of imported food and feed law enforcement controls, which reflected the fact that no food or feed arriving at the Airport and Sea Port was imported from third countries. An officer had been designated as having lead responsibility for carrying out imported food controls and another officer had similar responsibilities for imported feeding stuffs.
Liaison arrangements with relevant personnel at the Sea Port and Airport had been developed to ensure the Authority were notified of any food or feed consignments entering the port. Manifests for consignments of imported food and feed were routinely being examined and supported by inspections at the Ports. However, in the case of imported feed, the frequency of visits to the Port needed to be increased.
The Authority had not developed any procedures in relation to imported food or feed controls. However, the auditors were advised that procedures for imported food were currently being developed within the regional food liaison group.
The Authority had not yet developed any of the procedures required by the Standard in relation to their feeding stuffs law enforcement service.
