Kirklees Metropolitan Council
Wednesday 8 February 2006
12 October 2005
Executive Summary
It was very clear that the Authority actively supported the Home Authority Principle (HAP), having 1 formal and a further 5 informal agreements with food businesses. File checks confirmed that the Authority was considering the HAP when carrying out food safety enforcement and, in general, appropriate referrals had been made to other local authorities in respect of unsatisfactory food samples and complaints. Where referrals have been received from other local authorities, these were properly followed up and investigated.
The Authority had been proactive in developing effective links with businesses, enforcement agencies and other relevant organisations, which enabled the active promotion of food safety and the provision of comprehensive advice to food businesses to help them comply with food safety legislation.
It was evident that the Authoritys advisory and promotional work was comprehensively included in the service planning process and that it was an integral element of the day to day work carried out by the Service.
