The Authority had developed a procedure on the internal monitoring arrangements for the food law enforcement service. However, this needed to be further developed to include all the areas of food law enforcement activity contained in the Standard. The process for follow-up action on any issues identified by the internal monitoring also needed to be detailed.

In practice, the Authority's monitoring of the key performance indicators as outlined in its Food Service Plan was generally adequate. However, internal monitoring of qualitative aspects of its food service was not comprehensive or frequent enough to be effective.

The Authority was participating in an inter authority audit scheme but the Food Service had yet to be audited as part of this initiative.
