Wakefield Metropolitan District Council
Thursday 10 February 2005
23-24 November 2004
Executive summary
The Authority had developed and was implementing a comprehensive programme of quantitative and qualitative internal monitoring aimed at ensuring consistent and effective food law enforcement. The internal monitoring arrangements applied to all aspects of the food service. The Authority had also developed an internal monitoring procedure detailing the arrangements in place.
File checks carried out during the audit on a range of food law enforcement activities and an examination of internal monitoring records showed that a high level of performance by officers was underpinned by the effectiveness of the internal monitoring arrangements. This is reflected in the fact that no recommendations for improvement were considered necessary.
The Authority was also participating in an Inter Authority Audit scheme co-ordinated by the West Yorkshire Principal Food Officer Group. Issues raised by this audit process had been effectively addressed by the Authority.
