Craven District Council
Monday 24 January 2005
26 - 27 October 2004
Executive summary
The Authority had developed and were implementing a comprehensive programme of quantitative and qualitative internal monitoring aimed at ensuring consistent and effective food law enforcement. The internal monitoring arrangements applied to all aspects of the Service. The Authority had also developed an internal monitoring procedure detailing the arrangements in place, but this needed to be expanded to reflect the range of quantitative monitoring being carried out in practice.
File checks carried out during the audit on a range of food law enforcement activities and an examination of internal monitoring records showed that a high level of performance by officers was underpinned by the effectiveness of the internal monitoring arrangements.
The Authority was also actively participating in an IAA scheme operating within the framework of the North Yorkshire Food Liaison Groups quality management system. Issues raised by this audit process had been effectively addressed by the Authority.
