Recall of Sokolow's Home Black Pudding Sausage/Grill Black Pudding Sausage due to listeria monocytogenes contamination

Further to the issue of Product Recall Information Notice 09/2010 and subsequent update regarding the above, the Agency would like to draw this to the attention of all authorities that may have distributors or retailers of this product within their areas. Listeria monocytogenes has been detected at an unacceptable level in certain batches of the product, as detailed below. This is a Polish product that is sold under the names Home Black Pudding Sausage and Grill Black Pudding Sausage.

(Individual pack weights of both products vary)
A full recall of all date codes have been carried out by some distributors, however sampling results so far have only shown evidence of contamination in certain batches detailed below. Other batches were also found to be affected; however these have now passed their use by date.
The batches that have not currently exceeded their use by date that were found to contain unacceptable levels of Listeria monocytogenes are:
- Use by date: 30 October 2010/Batch code: 474M0916
- Use by date: 11 November 2010 / Batch code: 544B0921
- Use by date: 13 November 2010 / Batch codes: 341J0930 and 605B0927
- Use by date: 16 November 2010 / Batch code: 3651001
- Use by date: 25 November 2010 / Batch code: 375B1006
The Agency has already been made aware that the product has been distributed in the UK by the following companies:

Contact has already been made with the local authorities for these companies with regard to recalling the affected product.
Actions to take:
As the affected product may pose a serious risk to human health, local authorities are requested to contact distributors and retailers of Polish food in their area to determine whether they have supplied Sokołów Home Black Pudding Sausage/Grill Black Pudding Sausage. If the affected batches of product are found to have been supplied these should be withdrawn from sale and recalled from consumers. Food business operators should also be encouraged to issue point of sale notices explaining the reasons for recall to consumers.
If product is found on sale in retail outlets and supplied by a company that falls within another local authority area officers should:
- obtain full details of where the product has been received from and distributed to
- inform the Agency of the above information
