Food Alert: for Action
Ref: 35/2009 (Update 1)
This is an update to the Food Alert for Action issued on 23 December 2009 concerning cans of Pakstar Curried Chick Peas that have been produced on premises served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order due to food hygiene contraventions and insufficient controls of the canning process.
The implicated product was manufactured by United National Foods Limited, Marshall Hall Mills, Elland Lane, Elland HX5 9DU. The company previously traded as Rehman & Sons Ltd.
Distribution information has now been received from Sandwell Environmental Health, who obtained the information from one of the main distributors in England of this product. All the customers have been notified of the issue by the distributor.
A further update will be provided if any additional outlets are identified.

Actions to be taken by enforcement authorities:
If any of this product is found during routine inspections, enforcement officers should ensure that they are withdrawn from sale and destroyed, if necessary using powers under the Food Safety Act 1990 and regulation 27 of the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006. In the event of local authorities finding this product, they are requested to inform the Agency immediately of the retail outlet and the quantities found.
It is essential that all non unitary authorities liaise at county level to ensure that they co-ordinate their actions.
