The Food Standards Agency is committed to providing equality of opportunity and eliminating all forms of discrimination, harassment and bullying. It is committed to promoting a good and harmonious working environment in which everyone is treated with respect and will not tolerate discrimination, bullying and harassment of any kind.
FSA employees and individuals working under contract arrangements are required to assist the Agency to meet its commitment to provide equal opportunities in employment and avoid unlawful discrimination.
Public sector equality duty
The Public Sector Duty came into force on 5 April 2011. In line with its requirements, the FSA is committed to having due regard to:
- eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- advancing equality of opportunity between different groups
- fostering good relations between different groups

Diversity objectives
The Food Standards Agency is currently developing, in line with the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty, specific and measurable equality objectives which will help further the aims of the equality duty. The first equality objectives will be published by 6 April 2012 (and subsequent objectives at least four years after that).
Diversity report
The Food Standard Agency's Diversity Report provides an overview of the FSA's workforce profile, in addition to detailing the Agency's approach to recruitment, learning and development and examples of engagement with external stakeholders. The report will be updated, extended and published on an annual basis.
